Creating Original Routes
Designed to spark route setters' creativity, wooden volumes can be used in a variety of ways. First and foremost as standalone holds. But they can also completely transform the structure and relief of a climbing wall, playing on both aesthetics and difficulty level by altering the wall's angle. Some models are designed to fit together, further enhancing the originality and complexity of the route.
Types of Volumes and Their Characteristics
Wooden climbing volumes are made from plywood and coated with abrasive paint or resin mixed with sand to provide strong friction. They come in a variety of geometric shapes with angular features or slopers.
Volx wooden volumes are available in different geometric shapes and sizes, from S to XXL. They can span large dimensions while remaining relatively lightweight. A key advantage of wooden climbing volumes is the ability to bolt additional holds onto them, allowing route setters to create truly unique problems.
What Type of Holds Can Be Bolted onto Climbing Volumes?
The choice of holds will depend on the shape of the volumes. You can opt for classic polyester or polyurethane holds in small or medium sizes, with various grip types. On larger volumes, it is also possible to attach fiberglass or polyurethane macros for a more extreme climbing experience.
We also offer Dual Texture holds and macros compatible with wooden volumes. Dual Texture involves applying a smooth, friction-free paint to part of a PU hold, making that surface slippery and difficult to use. Technically, this type of hold demands far more precise and deliberate movement. They are also visually striking holds with a bold, eye-catching finish.
How to Bolt Holds onto Volumes?
The surfaces of the volumes are flat and fitted with inserts to bolt on all types of holds. Galvanized steel socket head cap screws (CHC) are used for this purpose.
Adding a wood screw ensures the hold stays firmly in place and prevents accidental spinning, thereby reducing the risk of falls or injuries.
Wear Resistance
Wooden volumes are primed and coated with wear-resistant paint, making them durable and suited for intensive use. Their long lifespan means hold combinations and fittings can be reconfigured over time to refresh the layout of the climbing gym's walls.
Can Wooden Volumes Be Repaired?
Over time, wooden volumes show signs of wear. However, climbing volumes can be repaired at 3 levels:
-
By restoring the original texture to recover the initial friction.
-
By filling in the wood screw holes.
-
It is also possible to choose the color of the re-texturing.
